  • Why is it important to have my shears sharpened?
Having a sharp tool to cut hair is essential for a few reasons: It creates a nice blunt edge on the hair, making the hair feel healthy and fresh for the client. It also ensures that the style will grow out as it was intended by the stylist/barber. Having a sharp tool shears also allows the stylist to save time, because they aren't having to go over areas multiple times to achieve the desired result and effect. This will also save the wrists, hands and body from working harder than necessary. In the long run - this is very important!
  • How often should I have my shears sharpened?
Length between sharpening depends highly on how often you are using them and which cutting techniques you tend to utilize the most. For a full-time stylist we recommend every 3-4 months. For a part-time stylist we recommend every 5-6 months. Barbers/Stylists who do a lot more cutting than chemical services will need them done more often, closer to the 3 month mark. If you do a lot of dry cutting, finishing and texturizing with your shears you will need them done more often than someone who cuts on mostly wet hair; cutting dry hair is more aggressive on your blades than wet hair.
